On Wednesday night I had the "opportunity" to see an advanced screening of "Torque" starring Martin Henderson and Ice Cube. Before you dash out and drop your hard earned dollars at the cinema, take a sec and read my review.
I hadn't heard much of this film but went into the theatre expecting something a bit more realistic than the last motorcycle movie I saw, "Biker Boyz". Unfortunately I got the exact opposite! The film is so unreal that even the non-riders in the audience were laughing. If you are a rider you may find it hard to actually make it all the way through this one. The story line is weak and the special effects crude. I wish I could say the stunting scenes were good but most of them are computer generated and look as though you are watching a video game. I can only assume that the writer who put sport bikes racing atop a moving train has never actually ridden a bike. The dialog is overwhelmingly cheesy and I pray that there is no one out there that actually speaks using engine metaphors in every sentence. Normally I am fan of Ice Cube but even his appearance wasn't enough to save this movie.
The bike wash and Jesse James' cameo are about the only tolerable scenes in this flick. Unfortunately they last only 10 seconds each!
Since many of us are compelled to see every motorcycle related movie, no matter how bad, I won't tell you not to see it. I will however suggest you save your money and wait for video.
Thanks goes out to JoAnne at LOE productions for organizing the event and having the UpOnOne.com staff out.
